Sand & Cement Fibre Screed

What is Sand & Cement Fibre Screed?

Sand and cement fibre screed is a traditional semi-dry floor screed manufactured from a blend of sand, cement, water and polypropylene fibres. The fibres are incorporated throughout the mix to help control shrinkage and reduce the risk of shrinkage cracking as the screed cures.

We typically install a 4:1 sand-to-cement fibre screed, providing a durable and versatile floor construction suitable for residential and commercial projects. It can be installed bonded, unbonded or as a floating screed over insulation, and can also be used to encapsulate wet underfloor heating pipework where the appropriate screed depth is provided.

Why choose Sand & Cement Fibre Screed?

Strength and Durability

A properly specified and installed sand and cement fibre screed provides a strong and durable floor base suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications. Polypropylene fibres help control shrinkage and reduce the risk of shrinkage cracking during curing.

Excellent Thermal Conductivity

Sand and cement screed works effectively with wet underfloor heating, allowing heat from the pipework to transfer through the screed and across the floor surface. Its thermal mass also helps retain and release heat steadily once the floor reaches temperature.

Versatility

Sand and cement fibre screed is suitable for a wide range of floor constructions and can be installed bonded, unbonded or as a floating screed over insulation. It can also accommodate wet underfloor heating and provides a suitable base for many common floor finishes once sufficiently dry and correctly prepared.

Cost-Effective Solution

Traditional sand and cement fibre screed provides a proven and cost-effective solution for many floor constructions. Its versatility and widespread availability make it a practical choice where accelerated drying times or specialist screed properties are not required.

What can Sand & Cement Fibre Screed be used for?

    1. Residential Floors: A versatile solution for extensions, renovations and new floor constructions, providing a durable screeded surface ready for the chosen floor finish once sufficiently dry and correctly prepared.

    2. Commercial Projects: Suitable for a wide range of commercial floor constructions where a traditional semi-dry screed has been specified, with the required depth and strength selected to suit the application.

    3. Floors Over Insulation: Sand and cement fibre screed can be installed as a floating screed over suitable floor insulation, with the screed depth specified according to the floor construction and anticipated loading.

    4. Underfloor Heating: Fibre screed can be used to encapsulate wet underfloor heating pipework, providing a solid thermal mass around the heating system while creating a suitable base for the final floor finish.
