Traditional underfloor heating is a wet heating system where heating pipes are installed within the main floor construction and encapsulated within a screed. The system is typically installed over floor insulation, with the pipework securely fixed at designed spacings before the screed is installed over the complete system.
This type of installation is particularly suited to new builds, extensions and major renovations where sufficient floor depth is available. The screed surrounds the heating pipes and creates a large thermal mass, allowing heat to be distributed evenly across the floor while providing a stable base for the final floor finish.
At Northwest UFH & Screed, we can design and install the complete system, including insulation preparation, UFH pipework, manifolds and screeding, providing a coordinated floor construction from one contractor.
New Build Properties: Traditional UFH is ideally suited to new builds where the insulation, heating pipework and screed can be designed together as part of the complete floor construction.
Extensions: A practical solution for new extensions where sufficient floor depth is available to incorporate insulation, underfloor heating pipework and screed.
Major Renovations: Where existing floors are being completely removed and rebuilt, traditional UFH can be incorporated into the new floor construction rather than using a low-profile retrofit system.
Large Open-Plan Areas: Traditional underfloor heating provides evenly distributed heat across larger floor areas, making it particularly suitable for open-plan kitchens, living spaces and similar areas.
